Karen Weinstein

Class of 2008

Karen Weinstein is an activist and a grassroots organizer. She has been involved in the struggle for women's rights, labor rights, and health care. Karen, with several colleagues, made one of the first pro-choice films in this country before Roe V. Wade. This film is still being used in women studies programs today.Karen is Chair of Political Development for the Women's Caucus of the California Democratic Party. Last year she was also elected as member of the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee for the 14th Assembly District. She is on the Executive Board of NWPC-Alameda North, and she is a member of Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club and the CDP Progressive Caucus. She is currently Co-Chair of the United Democratic Campaign for Berkeley, Albany, and Emeryville. She is a proud union member of United Healthcare Workers. Karen's fundamental belief is that democracy at every level is worth fighting for. As a cancer survivor she understands that time is precious and wastes no time in fighting for core social justice values.Karen received her Ph.D. from the State University of Buffalo. She is a psychologist and has worked for Kaiser Permanente for the last 20 years.
