Emerge California Hosts Annual SoCal Event in Los Angeles on Oct. 27

Premier Training Program for Women Candidates

Celebrates Second Year in SoCal

State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson to Deliver Keynote Address

Los Angeles, CA – While women represent over 50% of California’s population, only 27% of our elected officials are women. Emerge California, which recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office, is working to change that. The organization is hosting its Annual SoCal Event in Los Angeles next Tuesday night.

Emerge CA launched its SoCal training program last year, which ran alongside its 13-year-old San Francisco Bay Area program. Its highly successful first year in SoCal culminated with Emerge CA being honored by the Los Angeles City Council in June for its commitment to training and supporting the next generation of Democratic women leaders.

Before kicking off its second year, Emerge CA will host its Annual SoCal Event in Los Angeles on Tuesday, October 27 with keynote speaker State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson. Senator Jackson recently achieved historic legislative success when Governor Brown signed the California Fair Pay Act, a bill she authored, which closes the gender wage gap and becomes the strongest equal pay law in the country.

“Senator Jackson succeeded in passing groundbreaking legislation that will significantly impact the economic lives of women and their families,” said Emerge California Executive Director Kimberly Ellis. “It’s no surprise that this legislation was authored by a woman. Research shows that women in office prioritize issues affecting women, children and families. Our mission at Emerge is to have more women like Senator Jackson running and winning.”

Other speakers at the event include Sydney Kamlager, Trustee for the Los Angeles Community College District and Jeanette Flores, Emerge CA alumna and Charter Oak Unified School Boardmember. Both were elected to their seats earlier this year.
