San Francisco, CA – Here in the Bay Area, men are working hard to get women elected to office. Emerge California, which recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office, will honor those men at its annual fall mixer at Hawthorn in San Francisco.

California men recognize that we need women’s leadership to help address our most serious challenges, including drought exacerbated by climate change, economic and social disparity, and the nefarious impact of corporate and special interest on policymaking. Research http://www.politicalparity.org/why-women/ shows that elected women vote more consistently in favor
of environmental protections and prioritize issues affecting women, children, and families.

Emerge CA’s most ardent male supporters, including Emerge CA Board Member and SF School Board Member Matt Haney, San Jose Councilmember Ash Kalra, and Assemblymembers Tony Thurmond and Phil Ting, are co-hosting the reception at Hawthorn Lounge. The San Francisco 49ers are official event sponsors and the Golden State Warriors DJ, D Sharp, will provide the music.

“We could not do the important work we do at Emerge without the support of men,” said Emerge California Executive Director Kimberly Ellis. “Electing more women in California is not about parity for parity sake. Our male supporters know that women in office have been shown to be more collaborative and effective in passing legislation. These are the qualities we need in our leaders right now to address our biggest challenges.”
