Emerge CA to Graduate 27 NorCal Women Ready to Run for Office

Ceremony on Saturday, June 13, San Francisco –

Former Assemblymember Nancy Skinner to Deliver Keynote Address

San Francisco, CA – Twenty-seven women from Northern California are now ready to run for office and help close the gender gap in state electoral politics. The class, which graduates this Saturday, completed a seven-month training program with Emerge California. The organization recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office.

The women in the 2015 NorCal class represent a diverse range of professions including technology, healthcare, education and public service. Fifty percent are women of color. Details on graduates available here: http://www.emergeca.org/alumnae/current

The graduation keynote speaker is former Assemblymember Nancy Skinner. Skinner served in the State Assembly from 2008 to 2014 and was instrumental in passing legislation with a focus on environmental conservation, public safety and higher education. Skinner will address a crowd of nearly 150 Emerge California supporters, alumnae, and board members who will be attending the graduation and reception.

“Nancy Skinner is a role model to women in the Emerge program,” said Emerge California Executive Director Kimberly Ellis. “During her tenure in the State Legislature, Nancy led on important issues such as students’ access to higher education, protecting our communities from gun violence and conserving the environment. These are exactly the kind of issues that women leaders prioritize.”
