Applications for Emerge California’s Class of 2016 Open Today

New Accelerated Training Program Will Increase Numbers of Women Running for Elected Office in California

Oakland, CA – When graduates of Emerge California run for office, their win rate is nearly 70%. The organization, which recruits and trains Democratic women to run, opens its application process today for the Class of 2016 with programs in both Northern and Southern California. The deadline for submitting applications is October 9, 2015.

Emerge California has accelerated the time frame of its training program, so it will run for four months with intensive weekend sessions, instead of seven months as in prior years. The condensed training period will allow Emerge CA to increase its efforts to identify and recruit more women to run for office statewide, with a heightened focus on regions where women are severely underrepresented in office, including Central California.

Emerge California seeks bright, self-motivated women who are committed to effective political leadership and are committed to running for elected office and who have:

  • Evidence of political leadership experience or potential, and meaningful involvement in workplace or community;
  • Commitment to running for elected office;
  • Demonstrated ability to bring together disparate groups to achieve a goal;
  • Ability and desire to build effective networks;
  • Ability to articulate a personal political vision;
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire others; and
  • Commitment to full participation and attendance requirements of the program.

Applicants must be women who are registered Democrats and who reside in the state of California.

Tuition for the Emerge California training program is $1,500. Partial financial aid may be awarded after admission to the program. More information on program requirements can be found at http://www.emergeca.org/training/application.
